Newcastle United official announcement as Matias Fernandez-Pardo has signed for NUFC

Matias Fernandez-Pardo has signed for Newcastle United.

The exciting young attacking player announced by United on transfer deadline day.

Tuesday’s official club statement beginning: ‘Newcastle United are delighted to announce the signing of Matias Fernandez-Pardo from LOSC Lille for an undisclosed fee. The 21-year-old Belgium international forward joins on a long-term contract and becomes the club’s eighth first team arrival of a transformative summer transfer window. He will wear the number 20 shirt.’

As usual, no transfer fee made public by Newcastle United.

However, ahead of the official announcement it was widely reported that a transfer fee of around £51m had been agreed, with potential future add-ons taking the overall figure up to around £55m.

The official Newcastle United statement adding: ‘Matias arrives with a growing reputation as one of Europe’s most exciting young talents. Comfortable operating in central or wide areas, he has established himself as a direct, high-intensity forward, and his form for Lille last season played a key role in helping the French club secure UEFA Champions League qualification.’

I spoke to the head coach and he really showed how much he wanted me to be here. In terms of my own career progression, it made complete sense to come so I didn’t hesitate at all.

The new NUFC signing adding: “I know the club, I know about the stadium, I know it’s a fantastic atmosphere. I’ve followed the team. What I’ve seen is a team that’s very ambitious, wants to attack, get forward, really chase teams and go after them, and that’s really something I want to take part in as well. I’m still young, I’m still hungry, and that’s why I’m here, and I want to make that progress with Newcastle. I can’t wait to start the wonderful adventure here.”
