These three Tottenham players have been put forward as potential makeweights in a deal to take Sandro Tonali to Spurs from Newcastle United.
You have to laugh.
The Football London site naming this trio of Tottenham players, one or more of them, who could be now heading to Newcastle United with Sandro Tonali heading in the opposite direction.
The three that they name are Richarlison, Lucas Bergvall and Guglielmo Vicario.
This invariably happens when you have a club after one of your best players for a large amount of money, more cash than you think this club could feasibly afford. You have the fans and journalists that cover the (supposed) buying club, listing players who that club want to get rid of as potential makeweights.
So in this case, they want us to believe Newcastle United would take one or more of this lot and in return Spurs get one of our best players at a bargain price. Once their (mythical) valuations of these unwanted players is knocked off the Sandro Tonali asking price.
There is more chance of me playing up front for Newcastle United than there is of Richarlison doing so! He is a loathsome character and exactly what Newcastle don’t need as they look to take on a huge challenge of bouncing back next season. The Brazilian is 29 now and only started 20 of Tottenham’s Premier League matches last season, off the bench in another 11, whilst they were finishing fourth bottom and only just avoiding relegation on the final day of the season. He will be one of the biggest earners at Spurs, earning more than any Newcastle United player, the idea we would give him one last huge pay day and write off loads of cash on somebody who we could never sell on. I don’t think so.
Vicario is an okay goalkeeper and no better, he is 29 and Tottenham conceded more Premier League goals than any other top tier club apart from the three who were relegated. Newcastle United have just signed Ewen Jaouen in a £24m deal and if they don’t get a James Trafford in or similar then Nick Pope would be a better and cheaper bet than Vicario to stay on and challenge the new French keeper.
Lucas Bergvall is the most credible of the three Tottenham players put forward by the London media report but considering how shocking Spurs were last season and the injuries they had, Bergvall came off the bench more (12 times) than the 11 PL games he started. The idea of him filling Tonali’s boots is a major leap of faith.
Anyway, as I said earlier, it is laughable how journalists and fans of other clubs believe the players they want rid of, can be the key to making a huge incoming deal happen.
Total nonsense these claims and for sure it will be a case of Newcastle United insisting on cash only and not part-exchange, for any club wanting to buy somebody like Sandro Tonali.
