Nico Gonzalez has been quizzed on the crisis at Manchester City.
The Newcastle United star having swapped the Etihad for St James’ Park less than six weeks ago.
Nico Gonzalez though finding it far easier to talk about how he is enjoying life on Tyneside…
Nico Gonzalez talking to Keith Downie who covers Newcastle United for Sky Sports:
Keith Downie: “Talk us through the decision to come to Newcastle United from Manchester City, as it surprised some people after Newcastle had lost some big players”
Nico Gonzalez: “I think it was the opposite, it was a huge opportunity for me. Obviously I was at a top club at Manchester City but I think Newcastle United has been amazing the last years, with even more potential, so I think we are a top team and I am enjoying it so much. At the end [of the day] the most important thing is not that you have to be at the best club, I think the most important thing is enjoying football and trying to be the best player you can.”
Keith Downie: “At Manchester City it is very difficult to be the main man, the top man. But here at Newcastle it already feels like you are one of the main men, do you think you will enjoy that added responsibility?”
Nico Gonzalez: “I don’t like to talk about main man because things change so quickly. Obviously coming here and feeling all the confidence from the staff and all the fans, all the team, it is really nice. It makes me feel even more energy to try to give my best.”
Keith Downie: “You mention the fans. I think back to the pictures of when you came out to be introduced to the fans [before kick-off against West Brom], you looked quite emotional that night?”
Nico Gonzalez: “I was! I was surprised…those moments are in the middle of so many emotions. When you are coming here and feeling that…it was the best decision I could have ever made.”
Keith Downie: “I need to ask you about the situation at your old club Manchester City. Difficult times for them…what do you feel now from the outside looking in?”
Nico Gonzalez: “It is hard for me because I have mixed emotions. I really want them to succeed, not only my old teammates, but [also] people that work there. I built so many connections there, so many relationships, I will always wish them the best. But I am just a player, I can’t say this has to be the punishment, or there has to be a punishment. I can only wish them personally, everyone I have been around, [wish them] the best, but the club…I don’t know what to say, I am not aware of everything.”
