Thomas Tuchel will officially announce his England World Cup squad on Friday.
However, ahead of that official launch, there has been a reveal of a number of players who have AND haven’t made the cut.
Embarrassingly, Harry Maguire has done his own reveal.
Rather than showing respect and waiting until after Thomas Tuchel goes public with his England World Cup squad, Maguire instead taking to social media and saying: “I was confident I could of played a major part this summer for my country after the season I’ve had. I have been left shocked and gutted by the decision.”
Meanwhile, David Ornstein at The Athletic has done his own reveal on a number of potential England candidates.
He says that his information is that Newcastle United star Tino Livramento HAS made the England World Cup squad, as has Chelsea’s Noni Madueke and Man U’s Kobbie Mainoo.
However, The Athletic journalist reveals that Manchester City’s Phil Foden has NOT made England’s World Cup squad.
Ornstein adding that Man U’s Luke Shaw and Everton’s James Garner have also been left out.
The Athletic update saying about the United full-back: “Tino Livramento, who can play on either side of the back four, made his debut in a Nations League win over the Republic of Ireland in November 2024, under interim head coach Lee Carsley, and won the latest of his five caps in the friendly defeat to Japan in March. The 23-year-old’s season has been disrupted by thigh and hamstring injuries, restricting him to just 17 appearances in the top flight for Newcastle.”
This will be a huge boost for the young Newcastle United defender who has experienced such bad luck with injuries.
The England World Cup squad will fly to the United States in 11 days time (1 June 2026) and play friendlies against New Zealand on 6 June and against Costa Rica on 10 June in World Cup warm-up games whilst based at their preparation camp in Florida.
England are in Group L and face Croatia on 17 June, Ghana on 23 June, then play against Panama on 26 June in their final group match.
The top two in each four-team World Cup group automatically progress and then the eight best performing of the twelve teams that end up third in the groups.
