This is an ‘interesting’ one regarding Sandro Tonali and Tottenham.
Just when you think you have heard it all.
Simon Jones of The Mail says his information is: ‘Tottenham have thrown their hat into the ring for Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali.’
The Mail headlining the piece: ‘Tottenham make audacious approach for Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali after securing Premier League survival under Roberto De Zerbi’
Audacious? Surely the word they were looking for is…laughable!
Of course, whether there is any truth or not in this claim is another matter again.
However, if just for one minute we did take it as true that Tottenham have made an approach to try and buy Sandro Tonali, then the automatic reaction should be ridicule from the media that he would entertain for one second a move to Spurs.
A club that has been in relegation battles the last two seasons, finishing fourth bottom both times.
A club that has no European football to offer.
Not to mention, a club that has had four different managers these past 13 months.
What next? Simon Jones and The Mail reporting that Ipswich, Coventry and Hull City (no disrespect to any of them) are trying to sign Bruno Guimaraes??
I am very confident that Sandro Tonali will still be a Newcastle United player next season. Having him and Bruno Guimaraes in midfield will be key I believe in United bouncing back up the Premier League table in 2026/27.
The Italy international is a top quality player and the idea of him potentially going to Tottenham is something that only a London-centric media would think could happen.
As I say, I’m confident he won’t be moving anywhere this summer, but you can never say never with any player. However, Newcastle United and Eddie Howe would only consider selling him if receiving a seriously huge offer that was up towards double the £55m United paid for him three years ago, whilst Sandro Tonali himself would only potentially leave for a club that could claim to present a far better chance of winning trophies in the next few years than Newcastle United. In neither case would that club be Tottenham.
