Monday brought news that Newcastle United had reached agreement with Lille to sign Matias Fernandez-Pardo.
David Ornstein at The Athletic revealing that Newcastle United had agreed to pay a guaranteed €60m (approx £51.4m), plus an unspecified amount in potential future add-ons.
Matias Fernandez-Pardo set to arrive on a five-year contract and Ornstein saying personal terms are not expected to be a problem.
The 21-year-old attacking star can play all across the front line and was a key player for Lille last season as they finished third in Ligue 1 and qualified for the Champions League. He started 27 of the club’s 34 league games and scored eight Ligue 1 goals.
Matias Fernandez-Pardo made his international debut in June and then played at the World Cup finals, he now has won five caps for Belgium.
Now he has arrived on Tyneside and is set to have his medical and then complete his move on deadline day (by 11pm Tuesday 1 September 2026).
Footage has now been released by Sky Sports of Matias Fernandez-Pardo arriving at Newcastle Airport on Monday night ahead of his medical.

Matias Fernandez-Pardo set to become Matthias Jaissle’s third signing since he arrived as the new Newcastle United Head Coach, with Amar Dedic and Nico Gonzalez having already came in. The Lille player will actually be Newcastle’s eighth signing of the summer, as before Jaissle arrived we had already seen Ewen Jaouen, Lukas Hornicek, Sean Steur, Bazoumana Toure and Aladji Bamba come in.
