Eddie Howe has now resigned as manager of Newcastle United.
The likes of The Mail, Sky Sports and The Independent all reporting the breaking news on Thursday morning.
Sky Sports reporting that Eddie Howe has left Newcastle United: ‘Following discussions with the club hierarchy. Conversations were held over the past 48 hours but Howe had started the ball rolling on a potential departure a number of weeks ago. During that time, Howe had continued to focus on preparing the team for their season opener against Liverpool on 23rd August.’
This news coming only 24 days ahead of the Premier League season kicking off against Liverpool.
The Sky Sports report going on to say: ‘The Magpies have already had a challenging summer following the sales of Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon and that continues with uncertainty over their captain Bruno Guimaraes. Those sales have played a factor in Howe’s decision amid concerns about what the squad will look like at the start of the new campaign. Howe has spent a number of months reflecting on his time at Newcastle and believed he could take the club forward this season, providing Newcastle recruited well this summer.’
The 70% UEFA limitations on SCR, the proportion of a club’s revenues that can be spent on transfer fees and wages, has made things even more difficult for Newcastle United in the transfer market.
Sky Sports going on to say: ‘The club have already signed 20-year-old winger Bazoumana Toure from Hoffenheim for £42m, 18-year-old midfielder Sean Steur from Ajax for £23m and 20-year-old goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen from Reims for £18.5m. However, they have missed out on Switzerland international Johan Manzambi, who decided to move to Aston Villa.’
The report ends with: ‘Newcastle have already started the process to find Howe’s successor with a number of names on the list of sporting director Ross Wilson and CEO David Hopkinson.’
