Jurgen Klopp is set to be the new manager of Germany.
Jurgen Nagelsmann having offered his resignation on Thursday.
This followed a really poor 2026 World Cup campaign for Germany.
They hammered Curacao 7-1 in their opening group match but looked poor in the following three games.
Germany never looked convincing against a limited Paraguay side in the last 32 clash and deservedly going out on penalties.
The German football association (DFB) have now confirmed on Friday that they have accepted Nagelsmann’s resignation and cancelled his contract.
On the official site, Julian Nagelsmann explaining his departure: “My top priority has always been the team’s success…After such a bitter disappointment, they deserve the chance for a fresh start. A special thank you also goes to the fans. You carried us, you trusted us, you gave us energy, even during difficult times. It truly pains me that we disappointed you and couldn’t give you any more memorable nights of football at this World Cup. You deserved so much more!”
Germany now appear set to appoint Jurgen Klopp as the replacement.
The DFB announcing in a statement: “Regarding the appointment of a new coach, the DFB leadership will now seek talks with Jurgen Klopp.”
The DFB stating that Jurgen Klopp had “…already signalled his general willingness to take on the position.”
Newcastle United duo Nick Woltemade and Malcik Thiaw set to now have Jurgen Klopp as their new international boss. I can’t imagine either of them will be too upset about the change, neither got a start at the World Cup under Nagelsmann, Thiaw a couple of sub appearances and Big Nick just the one late chance off the bench in the Paraguay match.
