On Thursday night it was reported that agents representing Bruno Guimaraes had held talks with Arsenal.

The report on Thursday going on to say that Newcastle United were now expecting an official approach from the Gunners.

The Mail report that their information was that: ‘…representatives in the UK are gauging the market for the Brazil international. Mikel Arteta is keen to strengthen his midfield ahead of the club’s title defence and they have identified Guimaraes, currently on duty at the World Cup, as one of their targets. The 28-year-old is one of a handful of options Arsenal are monitoring as they consider whether to submit a formal offer.’

Now Craig Hope of The Mail has given an update, saying that:“Newcastle United have told reprsentatives involved they will not entertain offers for Bruno Guimaraes.”

Other journalists have said the same thing, so it sounds like NUFC have briefed them on this, making clear that Bruno Guimaraes will still be playing for United next season.

I think what needs to be made clear in all of this is that there is no suggestion at all that Bruno Guimaraes has asked his agents to look for a new club for him.

If the claims are true of the agents having talks with Arsenal and potentially others, I think more a case of this is what agents do, endlessly sounding out clubs as to whether they would have interest in any of their clients if they did at some point become interested in a move. After all, this is how the big money is earned for agents, when big players make big moves to other clubs.

Indeed, last night’s piece from The Mail added: ‘‘Bruno Guimaraes has not indicated any desire to leave Newcastle, but there is an awareness that his name is being discussed elsewhere.’

As with all media reporting regarding alleged potential transfers, you make your choice on what you believe, or don’t believe…

What we do know for sure is that Bruno Guimaraes is reminding everybody of just how brilliant he is out at the World Cup, the Newcastle United captain already has three assists in three matches for Brazil.

What we also know for sure is that Bruno Guimaraes has the quality to play for any team in the world.

For Newcastle United he is, in my opinion, priceless and irreplaceable. My belief for sure is that Bruno Guimaraes will still be playing for Newcastle United next season.
