On Friday 29 May the official announcement came that Barcelona had signed Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United.
The long expected departure seeing United happy to sell the former Everton winger in order to help invest in their own transfer targets.
Anthony Gordon choosing the La Liga champions over Bundesliga winners Bayern Munich.
As usual, no official confirmation of what the deal had cost Barcelona.
However, widespread reporting in both Spain and the UK all stated that it was an €80m (€70m initial transfer fee and then €10m more in future add-ons) deal, which equates to £70m.
There has now been an update on the financial side of the Anthony Gordon transfer to Barcelona.
Spanish media now saying that the total cost for Barce was far higher.
La Razon reporting on what was revealed by RAC1, the Catalan radio station stating that their information is that Barcelona also had to pay €24m (approx £20m) to agents in order to get the deal done.
These fees paid to agents taking the total deal (not including wages) up to €104m that Barcelona had to pay rather than €80m, which then equates to £90m rather than £70m.

Anthony Gordon had this to say back on Friday 29 May 2026 when his signing for Barcelona was announced:
Anthony Gordon getting emotional on his departure: “I owe this club a lot because, when I arrived, I was quite lost both in life and in football. The club has given me a sense of belonging and a sense of identity. It’s allowed me to do what I always thought I could do. It’s put me on the biggest stage and allowed me to perform for the shirt.”
In the time he was at the club, Newcastle United qualified twice for the Champions League and won a trophy.
Anthony Gordon saying: “Since coming to the club, I feel I’ve improved a lot on the pitch but this club has played a big part in the person I’ve become over the last three-and-a-half years. It was really important for me to leave this place in a good way because I’ve loved every single minute of being a part of Newcastle United. This is an incredible club and one that I’ll never forget. I’ll be a fan for the rest of my life.”
