Nico Gonzalez put straight into the Newcastle United starting eleven at his first opportunity.
An inspired decision as the former Manchester City midfielder was instrumental in the win at Tottenham.
Nico Gonzalez putting in an assured performance and topped it off with a brilliant long diagonal ball that Amar Dedic then headed to Anthony Elanga, for him to score the opening goal of a 2-0 win
After the final whistle at Tottenham, Nico Gonzalez talking about the reception that Newcastle United fans have given him since he joined United: “The first few days has been crazy. Every time I go walking they shout at me, ‘Let’s go Nico’ and these kind of things. I can tell that they’re really intense and they love the club so much.”
As for his Newcastle United debut, Nico Gonzalez declaring: “It was amazing. I have been here four days so it wasn’t easy for me to start but I am really happy for the work I have done and the team has done. The idea in the second half was the same but we made a few adjustments and were a little more aggressive on them. I think that this group has so much potential, we are really young and have so much space to improve and even today I felt like we kept on improving and feeling more comfortable and that is the way we need to keep going.”
As for that brilliant long diagonal pass that led to an assist for Amar Dedic and goal for Anthony Elanga: Nico Gonzalez stating: “It is something I spoke a lot about with the coach. He wants me to see these kind of balls and I tried a few in the first half and the second half and we scored. It is something we have tried to work on. In the second half we said we have to keep doing this because it is really hard to defend these types of players. I hope it gives us many more goals this season.”
