It is Bayern Munich and PSG playing tonight.
I just wanted to have a quick say ahead of the match.
With Bayern Munich, I think it was totally embarrassing the way that loads of their top people and former players went on about the Nick Woltemade transfer.
Endless digs at Newcastle United and indeed at the striker himself, somebody they had been desperate to buy last summer. Except they tried to abuse the position they were in and made three derisory offers before finally Stuttgart lost patience and told them where to go.
As for PSG, United have played them three times in the Champions League and Eddie Howe’s Newcastle are the only English club that they can’t manage to beat.
Luis Enrique and their players less than gracious. Newcastle hammering them 4-1 and despite the match officials doing everything they could to help the French club, PSG still lucky to get draws in the other two games against NUFC.
You also have the fact that PSG have ruined the French domestic league, with them shortly due to pick up their 12th Ligue 1 title in 14 seasons. Nobody mentions these days how Qatar have simply bought the success that PSG have had in the Champions League and domestically.
A very similar story with Bayern Munich who have win the Bundesliga 12 of the last 13 now. They have ruined the league in Germany and it is just a little more subtle how they have created vast financial advantages over all the other clubs in their country.
And yet…
You can forgive a lot when you watch the kind of football that both PSG and Bayern Munich play.
You know, the kind where you have two teams that try to run up the other end of the pitch and score goals.
I had the misfortune of watching Arsenal against Atletico last night, a total embarrassment. Almost as unwatchable as the first leg when they played.
That game last week when PSG beat Bayern Munich 5-4, it was class.
I expect nothing less than the same again tonight.
The only shame is that they aren’t contesting the final.
Put it this way, imagine if both Champions League semi-finals were played the same night and you were in a pub where half the TVs were showing Arsenal against Atletico and the other half showing Bayern Munich v PSG. What kind of weirdo would be watching Arteta and Simeone facing off against each other with their teams???
May the best team win tonight and whether it is PSG or Bayern Munich that go through, for football’s sake I just hope they absolutely thrash Arsenal in the final.
