With the season now at an end, Bruno Guimaraes has put out an emotional statement to the Newcastle United fans via his own personal media.

Bruno Guimaraes stating: “A very frustrating season and without a doubt we are all very disappointed. You fans definitely did not deserve this. But football doesn’t always go the way we plan.”

Sunday saw United lose 2-0 at Fulham, a really poor and tame team performance.

Bruno Guimaraes left the pitch at 1-0 down on 66 minutes and was replaced by Anthony Elanga.

The Newcastle United captain had just been booked when he’d clearly been fouled and falling to the ground, grabbing the ball when he hit the deck. That moment enough for Bruno Guimaraes to call time on the match and indeed his season, the referee deciding no foul on the Newcastle player and instead giving him a yellow card for handball.

The Newcastle United team had struggled to threaten the opposition goal while Fulham had done so plenty of times at the other end.

Bruno Guimaraes cutting a frustrated figure as he tried to get his team going but it just wasn’t happening.

The player himself appearing to take an executive decision to be subbed off. The heat and fatigue playing a part possibly, though an acceptance he was now very much in danger of getting sent off due to building frustration if he continued, was no doubt the deciding factor.

Like the travelling fans, Bruno Guimaraes feeling he’d just had enough of this season as well.

The United captain also adding to his personal statement: “Individually, I managed to have the season with the most goal contributions in my career, and I would trade all of that for a better position in the table. Honestly, I just want to thank the fans for everything. Thank you.”

This season has seen Bruno Guimaraes register nine goals and five assists in the Premier League, plus two assists in other competitions.

Two seasons ago in 2023/24, Bruno Guimaraes managed to score seven goals and get eight assists in the Premier League, plus one assist in other competitions. Sixteen direct goal involvements in total, the same as this 2025/26 season.

Bruno Guimaraes wasn’t available for 12 matches after picking up an injury during the 2-1 win away at Spurs on 10 February.

Newcastle won five and lost six (and one draw) in those dozen matches but in the Premier League it was two wins and four defeats during that run.

Sunday was a rare personal off day for Bruno Guimaraes, a player who very rarely performs below a certain level. If we had eleven Brunos on the pitch we wouldn’t have any worries but that is not the reality.

Now a case of preparing for next season and bouncing back under his leadership on the pitch.
