Newcastle United have now agreed a transfer fee with Lille for Matias Fernandez-Pardo.
The very reliable David Ornstein at The Athletic revealing that Newcastle United have agreed to pay a guaranteed €60m (approx £51.4m), plus an unspecified amount in potential future add-ons.
The man from The Athletic saying that the final details of the deal are now being completed and Matias Fernandez-Pardo set to arrive on a five-year contract.
Ornstein saying personal terms are not expected to be a problem.
The 21-year-old young attacking star can play all across the front line and is expected to travel to Tyneside shortly and take his medical, then have the deal officially confirmed.
Matias Fernandez-Pardo was a key player for Lille as they finished third in Ligue 1 and qualified for the Champions League. He started 27 of the club’s 34 league games and scored eight Ligue 1 goals.
Last Thursday Lille announced that Matias Fernandez-Pardo was banned from training and playing for the team, until the transfer window closed. Something which was widely assumed to mean until he signed for another club. In his absence Lille drew 2-2 with PSG on Friday night.
Matias Fernandez-Pardo made his international debut in June and then played at the World Cup finals, he now has won five caps for Belgium.
The future of Nick Woltemade has been cast into doubt and if/when Fernandez-Pardo signs, there appears every chance that this will trigger Big Nick moving to probably an Italian or German club on loan, or even possibly a permanent deal if an acceptable offer is received.
