Welcome to the 2025/26 Newcastle United awards.
No voting involved.
Just myself deciding what this last season has delivered.
As we head into the summer, a chance to reflect on Newcastle United across the 2025/26 campaign.
So without any further ado…
The 2025/26 Newcastle United awards
Newcastle United player of 2025/26
Bruno Guimaraes is an inspirational captain who ALWAYS leads by example.
Lewis Hall and Malick Thiaw were next best.
Newcastle United young player of 2025/26
That would be Lewis Hall, a lot of people seem to forget that he is still only 21.
Next most encouraging, Lewis Miley and late in the season William Osula.
Newcastle United goal of 2025/26
There were 98 to choose from but William Osula’s winner for 10 man United against Man U is the stand out.
Dan Burn’s incredible header against Athletic Club gets second place.
Then the Nick Woltemade lob at Everton is third for me.
Best away trip of 2025/26
Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League.
Best 2025/26 signing
Malick Thiaw an easy choice here.
Although I think both Jacob Ramsey and Nick Woltemade have also done well.
Worst 2025/26 signing
Yoane Wissa, although of course so unlucky to pick up that bad injury before he had even played for Newcastle.
Anthony Elanga is runner-up.
Best home performance of 2025/26
The 2-1 win over Manchester City in November.
The 1-1 against Barcelona when United deserved to win.
It might seem strange to pick a defeat but playing most of the match with 10 men, Newcastle were superb in the 3-2 loss to Liverpool and the scousers absolutely fluked it.
Worst home performance of 2025/26
A number of contenders but the 3-2 defeat to Everton was a shocker.
The 3-2 defeat to Brentford was next worst.
Actually thought we were ok against the Mackems until the final 35 minutes when NUFC woeful.
Worst refereeing performance of 2025/26
Has to be Chris Kavanagh in the FA Cup win at Aston Villa.
Worst combined performance by match officials in 2025/26
By a country mile this would be the 2-2 draw against Chelsea, referee Andy Madley and VAR Peter Bankes an absolute joke as they made one abysmal decision after the other.
Best away performance of 2025/26
That would be the 4-1 win at Everton.
The 1-0 victory at Chelsea was very satisfying, especially after all the countless bad luck we have had there over the years.
The 5-0 first half away at Qarabag was exhilarating.
Worst away performance of 2025/26
The Mackems were rubbish but we were even worse.
Scoring so early at West Ham and then inexplicably woeful for the entire match after that.
The same at Brentford.
Comeback kings of 2025/26
A lot said about points thrown away last season from winning positions but that late comeback 4-3 victory over Leeds was unbelievable. Not a great team performance overall but so much character.
The Bournemouth FA Cup one was also a good one.
Biggest disappointment of 2025/26
Getting to the League Cup semi-final and not converting it into a third Wembley trip in four seasons. I know it was Man City but I had still convinced myself it was going to happen and had already booked a (refundable) hotel room for the final.
The Champions League last 16 elimination because we had played so well in the opening three halves of the tie and had done enough to be a goal or two up by that point. Instead a goal behind due to the penalty just before the break and then when they scored early in the second half…
Losing the two matches to the Mackems.
