Fulham fans have been commenting ahead of the Newcastle United match.
United have already won twice this season against today’s opponents and another victory would see Eddie Howe’s team finish with ten points from their last four matches.
Fair to say that Fulham fans don’t sound too excited about the game at Craven Cottage today.
A lot of arguing about whether it is even worth going to the final match of the season and whether cricket could be preferable.
The future of Marco Silva also high on the agenda and I must admit I am surprised that so many Fulham fans appear happy for him to go.
Fulham fans comment via their Friends of Fulham message board:
‘A week or two ago I was considering buying two tickets for Sunday, but recent performances and the attitude of Marco Silva has resulted in me not wanting to waste any more time or money, On Sunday at Lords Middlesex are playing Surrey in one of the biggest games on the cricketing calendar outside of Yorkshire v Lancashire.
Anyway I went on the website and I’ve managed to get two tickets in the main grandstand, so decent seats.
Now here’s the thing,I could only buy tickets for Fulham in the Riverside Stand and they were £105 each.
At Lords the tickets are £38 each !!!
Cricket is excellent value for money whereas a visit to Craven Cottage is very poor value for what you get.’
‘Lords for me already sold my NUFC seats on ticket exchange.’
‘Everyone is free to spend their time and money however they like.
Personally, I will be at Craven Cottage to watch the team for the last time this season. Even in a disappointing or bad year, I can’t think of a better place than Craven Cottage to be when Fulham is playing – how affordable or possible that is, it’s a different conversation.’
‘Fulham fans.
Last game of season to cheer the lads on and they go to cricket instead.’
‘The beauty of cricket is that winning isn’t the be all and end all, it never has been and never will be, when Brian Lara scored 405 against England all the England supporters stood and applauded.
If a Newcastle player scores, no Fulham supporter will stand and applaud.
At The Cottage is all about wanting your team to win, at Lords it is all about wanting to see good cricket being played.’
‘After the match I’ve got a feeling most people will wish they’d gone to the cricket. The skunks have hit form and we’ve, well, gone to dogdirt! A manager who doesn’t know if he wants to stay or go in a dead rubber match. Hopefully we’ll thump them, but I’d guess that’s probably only about a 5 percent chance!’
‘lots of seats available vs Newcastle… Thought, why not? Haven’t been for a while… I’ll take the missus with me… £68 each for my old H7 seat! No wonder there are so many empty seats left! Think I’ll spend my money elsewhere. Nothing to play for and going on recent form it’ll be a loss.’
‘I have been saying for ages that our pricing policy is too expensive. Long standig season ticket holders in the cheaper areas still get good value but; the Riverside, taking kids, atending a one off game etc all these things are way overpriced.’
‘If there’s one thing the senior management of this club knows how to do it’s how to scam people for watching dead rubbers.’
‘The game is sold out and ticket exchange open. Whatever we think of the pricing and I’m inclined to agree with you, the last three home games have sold out. The availability is down to ST holders looking to resell their ticket I presume if they can’t make the game. Mine is one of them.’
‘The seats available are all ST holders who have put them on seat exchange since yesterday when the club opened it, like me the regular fans have seen enough this season’
‘Dont speak for me, I shall still go and support my club….’
‘Not going, released my tickets, Silva can do one with his Parkerball v2’
‘Through thick and thin, eh?’
‘Can we host European games? While investigating Bournemouth’s eligibility on size (they are ok as 8,000 is the minimum capacity) i discovered the minimum pitch size is 105m x 68m. Craven Cottage is 100m x 65m. Have things changed since 2009/10 or did we get special dispensation?’
‘Good question !
I had to look it up and found out UEFA did give Fulham special exemption back in 09/10 since Craven Cottage is an historic ground, hemmed in on one side by a listed Archibald Leitch designed stand and on the other by the River Thames.
The general rule for pitch measurements for elite footy are as you said, but UEFA include special clauses for clubs with historic and listed grounds.’
”Praying Everton and Spam win. Will be great seeing spurs go down. They obnoxious fans getting relegated. One of the so called big 6 going is a good thing for the game’
‘Just so long as West ham beat Leeds and Spurs lose. That’s all that matters to me at this point as every Spurs fan I have met is far more important than I could ever be and god’s gift to the footballing earth.’
‘I have been told players know Marco Silva is leaving.’
‘I suspect he’s told them ages ago which is why they’ve been underperforming so much in the final third of this season.’
‘I still think he is going to stay and that would be excellent news.’
‘And only reason for that decision would be him not getting the Benfica job obviously.
I wish we would take the opportunity to just thank him and wish him well and be ambitious as a club and go out and get an exciting manager that can bring in some new ideas and take the club forward.
Glasner, Iraola, Hurzeler have really elevated CP, Bournemouth and Brighton and taken them to another level, and clearly surpassed us.’
‘The club should place him on gardening leave on Monday for the remainder of his contract. Enough is enough – we can’t waste 3 weeks waiting for the Mourinho/Benfica saga to play out.’
‘To be honest it’s a joke that we’re now essentially letting ourselves be at the mercy of Real Madrid and will fall in line depending on what they end up doing. If we had a backbone we would have issued an ultimatum to Silva months ago.’
