Stunning reaction after we asked Newcastle United fans if Eddie Howe should be replaced

On Thursday, we asked Newcastle United fans the question – Do you want Eddie Howe to remain as Newcastle United manager for the 2026/27 season?

When asking NUFC supporters to vote, we mentioned how it is so difficult at times to judge things properly, when so much is said on social media and often those with the most extreme views, positive and negative, getting the most attention.

So we thought it worthwhile to gauge how thousands of Newcastle United fans feel about Eddie Howe as we approach the end of this 2025/26 season.

A snapshot of opinion on how people are feeling at this moment in time.

As Newcastle United fans, do you want Eddie Howe to be given the chance to try and build further on what he has achieved so far at St James’ Park.

Or are you a Newcastle United fan who thinks it would be a good idea to replace Eddie Howe ahead of the 2026/27 season?

As I say, very difficult to gauge what the silent majority of Newcastle United fans think, with all this noise on social media and online generally.

So we asked Newcastle United fans to choose from the two options below, what fits best with how they think.

Here are the two options and the percentage of fans who voted for each of them:

76% Eddie Howe to stay as Newcastle United manager for the 2026/27 season

24% Eddie Howe to be replaced as Newcastle United manager this summer

Many thanks to the thousands of Newcastle United fans who took the time to vote.

An overwhelming vote in favour of Eddie Howe remaining in charge for the 2026/27 season, with better than three in four fans who voted, not wanting the manager replaced.

As stated earlier, it is so difficult in this modern day world where a bit like graffiti, what you see on social media and online generally, can make it look like a lot more people are involved than is reality.

My personal view is that I think it would be madness to want Eddie Howe to be replaced at this point. This season has been incredibly challenging and nobody would claim that it has been anywhere close to perfect but my own opinion is that Eddie Howe is the best possible person to have in place to make next season (and beyond…) a success. Especially now that the Newcastle United owners appear to be taking a more proactive approach in making the club competitive on and off the pitch, with hopefully no repeat of last summer’s shambles where there was no Sporting Director or CEO working at the club.

I was hoping that the public vote would back that view up and it obviously has done so, with that overwhelming result from Newcastle United fans. You can never be sure what the (largely) silent majority of NUFC supporters are thinking as an overall fanbase and so it is a big help to carry out this kind of exercise to find out.
