The transfer of Ousmane Diabaté to Newcastle United has now been confirmed.
Metin Diyadin making it official.
He is the manager of Gençlerbirliği, the club currently leading the Super Lig.
Ousmane Diabaté was in the starting eleven on Sunday as Gençlerbirliği won 1-0 away at Göztepe, he also started the previous weekend when they shocked Fenerbahçe with a 2-1 victory.
Early days but top of the table in the Turkish top tier with six points.
However, Metin Diyadin revealing that Ousmane Diabaté is playing on loan at Gençlerbirliği after agreeing a transfer to Newcastle United.
Metin Diyadin interviewed by HT Spor and part of that interview saw him talk about the sale of Ousmane Diabaté to Newcastle United, as quoted by Ajansspor:
“I came here during the mid-season last year. Ousmane Diabaté was playing in the youth team. We brought him into the team and because he came from Africa, there was a contract process involved. He has very high potential. We finalised his sale to Newcastle United. He is currently playing for us on loan. He is a very mature player for his age. He has good game vision and technical ability. I think he will reach different levels as he plays more. I’m really curious how our teams [in Turkey] didn’t see this in him. We transferred him to England.”
Ousmane Diabaté is still only 18 but is already a full international for Guinea and first choice for Gençlerbirliği playing as a defensive midfielder.
The teenager will turn 19 in September and the transfer to Newcastle United has been reported as a £3m deal, with a guaranteed £2.7m plus another £300,000 in future add-ons.
As the Gençlerbirliği manager says, Ousmane Diabaté is for now staying on loan with the club, but Newcastle United able to recall him in January if they decide to.
A case now of just waiting for Newcastle United to officially announce the signing.
