Sky Sports report that assuming all goes to plan, Matthias Jaissle will be officially announced as the new manager very soon and join the Newcastle United squad on Saturday in Spain.
The media in Saudi Arabia reported on Thursday that the Al Ahli manager had resigned from his post, as he prepares to take on the job at St James’ Park.
Matthias Jaissle has overseen Al Ahli pre-season preparations, with the Saudi club’s players spending the month of July in Spain and Portugal, training and playing six friendlies.
The sixth and final of those friendlies saw Al Ahli draw 1-1 against Fulham in Albufeira. The Al Ahli squad and staff then flew back to Saudi Arabia without Matthias Jaissle, as he stayed behind in Europe to complete his move to Newcastle United.
When Matthias Jaissle joins up with the Newcastle United party in La Manga, it will be familiar to him. Jaissle and the Al Ahli players were based there in summer 2025 for a pre-season training camp.
Sky Sports have also revealed that Eddie Howe’s backroom staff are leaving. Assistant Jason Tindall, coaches Stephen Purches, Simon Weatherston and Graeme Jones all following Howe out of the door.
It has also been reported elsewhere that Bruno Guimaraes won’t be on the plane today BUT is scheduled to join up with the rest of the Newcastle United squad on Sunday at La Manga.
