It has now been revealed that Manchester United are not immediately sacking Michael Carrick.
The Athletic with the exclusive.
They say that the Manchester United hierarchy have decided to give Michael Carrick time to lose more games before the inevitable exit.
The Athletic reporting on Tuesday that Michael Carrick is to be ‘…given more time to turn Manchester United’s fortunes around after a meeting of the club’s hierarchy on Monday. Carrick’s position as head coach appeared under serious threat following Sunday’s 3-0 defeat at home to Bournemouth, a result which left United 16th and without a win in their last eight matches in all competitions.’
The media exclusive going on to say: ‘It was their second successive loss by a three-goal deficit, and meant the club have only gained seven points in the Premier League this term — their lowest tally after eight games in 40 years. However, following talks on Monday between the club’s senior leadership figures, including co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, CEO Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox, the decision has been made to give Carrick and the players more time.’
Eddie Howe had been widely reported as the leading candidate to replace Michael Carrick, though Manchester United would need to pay Newcastle United compensation after the deal that allowed Howe to resign from NUFC in July.
Out of work former Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann has also been speculated as a possible successor at Old Trafford.
Little surprise if the likes of Eddie Howe or any other high quality manager would refuse to join the Manchester United circus. Especially when it would mean having to work for Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the Glazers.
Whether Man U have already approached potential successors is an unknown but it is amusing that this half-hearted ‘backing’ of Michael Carrick has now been made public.
In total this season, Michael Carrick has won only two of twelve matches in all competitions, so it is great news for the rest of the Premier League the longer he stays in the job.
Manchester United also have a dressing room made up of past their best players, massively over paid characters who think they are better than is the reality, a team that struggles to even be bothered to run around much, then worst of all somebody like Bruno Fernandes as their captain. His public undermining of the Michael Carrick a total disgrace, leaving the Man U boss with no option but to leave his captain out on Sunday for the home hammering by Bournemouth.
It looks like Michael Carrick will get the chance to lose another three matches before getting the sack, as before the international break in November, Man U face Chelsea away and Aston Villa at home in the Premier League, with a Champions League game at Old Trafford against Roma sandwiched in between.
