An official announcement on Monday morning from the club, great news as Lewis Miley has agreed a new deal.

The official release stating: ‘Newcastle United are delighted to announce that Academy graduate Lewis Miley has signed a new long-term contract with the club. The 20-year-old has penned a six-year deal to keep him at St. James’ Park until 2032.’

Lewis Miley only turned 20 on Friday 1 May 2026 and celebrated his birthday with yet another classy performance as a right-back in a 3-1 victory over Brighton. Having shown astonishing form there after Eddie Howe was forced to ask the midfielder to fill in there due to so many injuries.

However, three days after that win over Brighton, a freak training ground injury saw Lewis Miley break his leg.

Another cruel injury blow but the Geordie midfielder (sometimes right-back) expected to be available again when pre-season begins in July.

This Monday morning the official club announcement going on to say: ‘Lewis, an England Under-21 international, joined the Academy aged seven and rapidly progressed through the ranks to become the club’s youngest ever appearance maker in both the Premier League and UEFA Champions League. He also holds the club record for youngest goalscorer in both competitions, memorably netting against Fulham at the Gallowgate End as a 17-year-old in late 2023.’

I think at times the fans of a club can take for granted local lads who come through the ranks.

It is amazing what Lewis Miley achieved as a teenager, now we can look forward to so many years more as he progresses further.

The club statement adding: ‘His towering header away to Bayer Leverkusen earlier this season further cemented his place in the history books, replacing Hugo Viana’s Champions League record which had stood since 2002. Lewis featured 34 times during the 2025/26 campaign, which saw him adapt seamlessly to a new right-back role, taking his Magpies tally to 80 appearances in all competitions for his boyhood club. He ended the season with the highest amount of minutes played by any English teenager in the Premier League.’
