Alan Shearer has been talking about Newcastle United and Eddie Howe.
Five matches remaining of this season.
Alan Shearer discussing things following the defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday.
Newcastle United only six points off the top six BUT in 14th spot in the Premier League table.
Three Premier League defeats in a row and Alan Shearer appearing on the Rest is Football with Micah Richards and Gary Lineker.
Discussing Saturday’s Newcastle United defeat to Bournemouth.
Alan Shearer declaring to Gary Lineker and Micah Richards: “Did you watch it? “I was going to say I was lucky enough… but I sat and watched it and the players were terrible.”
Bournemouth had won away at league leaders Arsenal and were on a 12 (now 13) Premier League match unbeaten run.
Alan Shearer now discussing the situation for Eddie Howe: “As tough as it is for Eddie, I don’t know what is going to happen with him. I listened to his interview afterwards, I watched him on the touchline, I just think is he going to want to go again [next season]? Is he going to get a chance to go again [next season]?”
It has been a brutal season, Newcastle United playing more matches (53) so far than any other team in the major European leagues.
Will Eddie Howe be in charge when the 2026/27 Premier League season kicks off?
Alan Shearer giving this overview: “There are so many moving parts with it for Eddie Howe, if all things are equal then I would like him to stay, but does he feel he is going to have the chance? Does he want to do it again? Are Newcastle United going to have to sell? If he has money to spend and he doesn’t have to sell players then yes. But I looked at the players [against Bournemouth] and if that was what they call fighting for their manager…they were terrible. The players chucked him under the bus, the performance was cr.p from every single one of them.”
The 2025/26 campaign ends on Sunday 24 May and only 13 weeks later the 2026/27 Premier League season kicks off, with a six week World Cup in the middle of that.
Alan Shearer calling it: “It is a tough situation and a tough summer for Newcastle coming up, they have got some big decisions to make and as I am sat here, I don’t see Eddie Howe in charge of Newcastle next season, unfortunately. I look at his interview after the game and I am not sure the fight is there. It is a very different club now to the one that he would want to go forward. He doesn’t look in a good position.”
