Trevoh Chalobah has been explaining where it all went wrong for Chelsea, as Newcastle United deservedly took away all three points from Stamford Bridge.

Anthony Gordon scoring an 18th minute goal as Tino Livramento and Joe Willock combined to brilliantly set up Gordon to score what proved to be the winning goal.

United rarely troubled for the remainder of the game, as Eddie Howe’s team showed great discipline.

Trevoh Chalobah claiming: “It was one of those games where the final bit just didn’t go our way…We created a lot of chances that we didn’t take. We had a lot of possession and played a lot of the game in their half. Newcastle defended deep and defended well in fairness. We were just lacking that final touch in front of goal.”

Not sure when “a lot of chances” happened for Chelsea, they only had three efforts on target all match compared to Newcastle’s five, Aaron Ramsdale barely a serious save to make.

At least he got one thing correct, Newcastle United were excellent in defence and kept Chelsea away from Aaron Ramsdale’s goal so well.

Trevoh Chalobah continuing: “I think it was a mixture of things as to why we didn’t score, our end product not quite being there and Newcastle defending well with their low block. They were obviously clinical with their goal, which won them the game too. That happens in football sometimes, it is the fine margins and we just need to pick ourselves up and go again, because we have got a lot of big games coming up.”

Newcastle United became the first team not to concede at Stamford Bridge, in all competitions, since the very opening day of the season, some seven months.

Eddie Howe’s game plan was perfect and the execution of it by his players, despite six changes to the starting eleven, was exceptional.

Trevoh Chalobah played the full game in Paris in midweek.

Chelsea hammered 5-2 by PSG and now they face what looks an impossible task on Tuesday night in the second leg.

Trevoh Chalobah declaring: “This is Chelsea and it’s what we are playing for…we want to be competing in the best competitions, both in Europe and in the Premier League, we have a big game on Tuesday that I’m sure will be very special. A tough challenge but we are going to give it everything, so we need to move on from this game and focus on some big challenges ahead, starting with PSG.”
