The first week of the new year brought shock news that Kevin Keegan has been diagnosed with cancer.

An official Newcastle United statement revealing in January: ‘Kevin Keegan was recently admitted to hospital for further evaluation of ongoing abdominal symptoms. These investigations have revealed a diagnosis of cancer, for which Kevin will undergo treatment.’

The official statement going on to read: ‘Kevin is grateful to the medical team for their intervention and ongoing care. During this difficult time, the family are requesting privacy, and will be making no further comment.’

Nothing more had been heard. Apart from that is some quite disgraceful invented claims online, people making things up simply to try and get attention for their social media channels etc.

However, we have now had a very positive update.

Pete Graves revealing: “Kev has been going through a really tough time. He has been very poorly but the great news is he has responded well to his treatment and he is feeling a lot better. He is not out of the woods yet, but he is feeling strong enough to come out and see people, see his fans and tell his stories and relive wonderful memories, which he enjoys doing so much.”

The Sky Sports presenter is involved in a pubic appearance by Kevin Keegan scheduled for 31 May 2026 at the Tyne Theatre and Pete Graves adding: “It is going to be an honour to host and I can’t wait to welcome him out and let him hear the cheer of all the Geordies when he gets there.”

King Kev is a true NUFC legend.

As a player he saved us back in 1982, what a brilliant couple of seasons they were, unforgettable.

Then it was beyond incredible when he returned as manager in February 1992 to do the same, what a five years they were.

Kevin Keegan even came back again in January 2008 but even he couldn’t save us from Mike Ashley. The then owner’s treatment of King Kev arguably the worst of the lot from him, which is saying something.

Great to hear that our former player and manager has bounced back from this health setback and here’s hoping Kevin Keegan will be with us for many years to come.
