Those people who combine a love of the Toon with an equally discerning appreciation of fine music will instantly recognise those lyrics as being from Temple of Love by The Sisters of Mercy.
What the lyrics are saying is that at the time you love the moment but then things are different the next day.
I think in a protracted way that’s especially true of footballers. They kiss the badge and in some cases genuinely love the club.
But how long does the love last? How long should it last? And why do we sit on our collective high horse when the morning moment arrives?
I’ve been at my new job for three years this week and there’s a few projects that have failed to materialise and there’s a level of frustration starting to creep in.
Like the Toon we have lost a couple of team members and replaced them ironically with inexperienced graduates.
Some people are starting to annoy me too and TBH I’ve started polishing my CV up. Am I ok to move? Am I a rat?
The overall work journey for me has lasted longer than Bruno has lived. His work journey will be short, probably ten years or so and as an athlete he’s reached his peak already.
Bruno Guimaraes has given us his best years. He really has, with some me incredible moments. He fancies a new challenge that because of PSR/SCR we can’t give him. He’s done his bit.
We shouldn’t judge him because at the time he genuinely loved us and he and his family always will. I genuinely believe that.
On the same score we too might sign a contract but we know we can change our minds in the morning moment.
It’s life.
But for Alexander Isak, Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon it is a totally different matter…
