It has now been revealed that Newcastle United have reached an agreement to bring in James Fowler.

The Mail with the exclusive as they say: “His appointment comes as Newcastle make a bigger push at identifying the best European talent between the ages of 15 and 18.”

James Fowler is currently the head of academy scouting at Rangers.

The Mail going on to say that: “There is hope that this summer could see ambitious moves for one or two players in this bracket in a bid to get ahead of rivals.”

Jack Ross is Newcastle United’s Head of Football Strategy and when he managed Sunderland, James Fowler was assistant boss.

Fowler will have the title of ‘Scouting Operations Manager’ and will be responsible for the European scouting operation, The Mail say he will: “Work closely with Paul Midgley, the academy recruitment director, and Paul McLaren, the academy scouting director.”

In this report on Thursday, The Mail also confirm that Scott Mitchell is set to arrive at St James’ Park.

This follows a separate media exclusive earlier this week which revealed that the current head of first team recruitment at Oxford United had agreed to join Newcastle United as ‘Senior Academy Scout for players aged between 15 and 18, looking to recruit across the UK and Europe.

Great to see progressive appointments across the club, especially those looking to build the best possible structure to try and enable Newcastle United to bring in young talent ahead of rival clubs.
