Looking at these Premier League fixtures on Saturday, in this latest round of matches.
Seeing the other games from a Newcastle United perspective.
This sixth round of Premier League fixtures as the international break ends at last.
Six matches today.
Then it is three Premier League fixtures on Sunday, before finally Coventry City v Newcastle United on Monday night.
As a Newcastle United fan, have a look at these Premier League fixtures on Saturday and have a think about what you’d like to happen and what is most likely in terms of results.
My conclusions and predictions on Saturday’s matches
Arsenal v Leeds (12.30pm)
Arsenal had won their opening six matches (all competitions) without looking very convincing and then just before the internationals they were battered 3-0 by Brighton.
No doubt most people will still just assume they’ll win today but Leeds have looked a very solid team this season and won three and drawn three in all competitions. The only defeat was a crazy 6-3 at Chelsea in the Carabao Cup when a much changed Leeds side led 2-0 and then their mostly second string dramatically collapsed in the final stages of the match.
In more than seven months Leeds have only lost one Premier League match, undefeated in 13 of 14 in that period.
Arsenal may well win but I am backing Leeds to continue a very solid start to the season by getting a draw. Daniel Farke’s side also know that if they win this early kick-off they move up to second ahead of Arsenal, at least until other teams play this weekend.
Villa v Brentford (3pm)
I think another game where most media and fans will be forecasting a home win.
When you look at the story of this season though…
Villa picked up only one point and scored one goal in the opening four Premier League matches of the season. Just ahead of the internationals they won 3-2 against a pathetic Tottenham but even then almost threw it away after leading 3-0.
Brentford are unbeaten in all seven games (all competitions) and hammered Chelsea 3-0 last time out.
Keith Andrews has them playing great football and I am backing Brentford to win at Villa Park.
Chelsea v Bournemouth (3pm)
Chelsea have conceded 12 goals in their five Premier League matches and were hammered 3-0 by Brentford last time, they have conceded at least two goals in each game. Their last three EPL games seeing them only pick up one point and that was a very lucky one after trailing 2-1 at home to Hull City.
The chaos continues at this joke club and they are up against a Bournemouth team who have somehow found ways not to win any of their five Premier League games so far. They were excellent in the first half at St James’ Park and I think they will get a draw at Stamford Bridge, if Alex Scott hadn’t got injured on international duty I would have backed the Cherries to win.
Ipswich v Fulham (3pm)
Fulham have been that bad, only Tottenham are keeping them off the very bottom of the table on goal difference.
Ipswich have surprised plenty of people and look competitive, with a decent goal threat. They have lost three but deservedly won at home to Sunderland and away at Palace.
Ipswich have a huge incentive here, as if they win they go seven points clear of Fulham and will put daylight between themselves and other clubs. I think they have a great chance of doing so and will be throwing everything at Fulham.
Sunderland v Brighton (3pm)
Sunderland have conceded ten goals in their five EPL matches and only one fortunate league win so far when beating Fulham 1-0.
Brighton are undefeated in seven of their eight matches (all competitions) and have only lost a crazy 4-3 at Stamford Bridge.
The Seagulls have scored 16 goals in their five Premier League matches and having hammered and outclassed Arsenal 3-0 in their last game, Brighton will be very confident of a win today. I have every confidence in that as well. If they fail to win today, Sunderland could find themselves in the relegation zone by the end of the weekend.
Man U v Tottenham (5.30pm)
What a match up of two failing clubs, despite fortunes having been spent. Man U have only won one game and that was very lucky as they had been trailing at home to Ipswich.
Spurs scored no goals in their first four EPL matches and then lost 3-2 at home to Villa, getting two late goals. They are rock bottom and have only two points so far.
I am forecasting a draw here and even more pressure on the two managers.
