Everyone hates Monday. I actually hate Sunday evening because Monday is approaching.
So after a day of surreal nonsense at work on Monday with teenage kids I read my friend Simon Ritter’s article (‘Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon: a Mag’s marathon weekender’).
Great stuff, just what I needed after a mad day with lunchtime detentions and then bus stop duty with the walkie talkie in hand.
And so it is a time to be in the kitchen Jamie Oliver style to knock up steak and chips for me and the family.
No Monday Night Football as the International nonsense has started but the drivel on Radio Five is unbelievable.
So called knowledgeable pundits talk about the three Bs (Bournemouth, Brentford, Brighton) of the Premier League. Can they break into the top four? Brentford…Champions League. Seriously! Can the BBC really justify this so low level of journalism. Embarrassing on so many levels.
I have had this argument on numerous occasions with the people I work with (usually people who claim to be Arsenal but who have never been to a game).
And so the radio coverage continues on how the B clubs are so well managed, how they have the ability to spot talent and then sell it on and how they deserve their place at the top table.
What these expert pundits completely miss is that the B teams have played the Premier League superbly well, syphoning the big bucks created by the Premier League, whereas real clubs with real support such as West Brom, Wolves, Leicester, West Ham have taken their eye off the ball and succumbed to the bizarre rules which have been applied to the league to ensure that only a few teams are actually allowed to compete.
Newcastle United sell their best players. Not a mention on the radio questioning why such a scenario has been created.
Why have Aston Villa sold half the team that won the Europa League?
This to me is a much bigger question than why Brentford are so good.
Villa, Forest and Newcastle being hamstrung by financial rules are my questions. while the BBC journalists focus on the little clubs who have no history, a tiny support base, but who are holding their own in the Premier League.
So long as third rate journalists do not hold the Premier League to account for their mismanagement of the people’s game, then the game is finished as we know it.
The Americans and big money will create the European Super League along the lines of the NFL and the five clubs that have mugged football and pocketed the money will be off. RIP the Premier League. It is the three Bs and the incompetent Premier League that have given those clubs that ability to destroy our game. Funny how Chris Sutton and the BBC Journos are totally clueless.
