3 Positives and 3 Negatives to take from Arsenal 1 Newcastle United 0

It ended Arsenal 1 Newcastle United 0.

Ahead of each game we ask one of our writers to come up with three positives and three negatives following the match.

An ‘interesting’ match at the Emirates.

Plenty to talk about after this Premier League game.

Arsenal winning the game due to a ninth minute spectacular long range effort from Eze.

On this occasion it is David Punton:

POSITIVES

Some improvements

Compared to recent games it was an improvement in terms of how the team played, despite still losing the game

You can come away from that contest thinking we perhaps deserved something for our efforts.

They have to take that into the next match.

A huge effort is needed from the players.

The sublime…

What a pass from Nick Woltemade.

As an individual piece of skill that was ridiculously good from the German international.

No disgrace

A defeat but not a hammering.

You feared for us at the Emirates, but there was graft, and we come away only losing narrowly.

There is no disgrace in losing away at a club that is chasing the Premier League title. One of the hardest places to go in English football.

We’ve lost 12 of our last 13 games down there.

NEGATIVES

The ridiculous

See above for the sublime and see here for the ridiculous, as Wissa missed that sitter from Woltemade’s delicious through pass.

It looked easier to score!

A player of Wissa’s calibre has got to be burying it.

What is up with him?

It’s quite obvious he has to get a run in the side or he’s never going to get sharp and justify the vast transfer fee the club shelled out on him.

Pressure remains

It’s now nine defeats from 12 matches for Eddie Howe.

It’s a really poor run.

The team selection – again – raised hackles.

Lewis Hall dropped for Burn. Really?

Osula starting up front when there’s over £100m of attacking talent on that bench waiting to be unleashed.

If you were a sports journalist over in Germany you would be writing about Woltemade making this big move and unable to get a game as the coach keeps selecting the third choice striker every week.

I really do fear for Eddie Howe. He’s ever so stubborn.

It’s a faltering end to the season and for my money he’s in the bracket marked ‘beleaguered’.

Profligate and sloppy in the final third

The overall approach was better from the defensive point of view, we didn’t half miss some chances though at the other end.

We may not get a better opportunity to nab a point down there than this game.

Osula, Burn, and Wissa were all guilty of misses.

Decision making and deliveries were sloppy as well.

You tend to find in football when things don’t go your way it’s like snowball effect and it gets worse with every passing week.
