Newcastle United winger Anthony Elanga ended up at hospital on Thursday.

An eventful night for the Sweden international despite only coming on with just over 25 minutes to go, one of nine outfield changes made at that point by Graham Potter.

It was the final World Cup warm up match, a chance for the Sweden fans at the Strawberry Arena to see the players in action before they head to the finals.

For Anthony Elanga it was major concerns at the end of the game, as he was taken to hospital after a knee-to-knee collision with one of the Greek players.

Speaking to the media, Anthony Elanga admitting that: “It was a pain that cannot be described.”

However, positive news in the end for both Graham Potter and Eddie Howe.

Anthony Elanga explaining what happened when he went to hospital: “I have been tested, it feels good. Of course you get worried but it feels good. I am not worried, it is okay. I am calm.”

With only 10 days to go now until Sweden play Tunisia on 15 June in their first World Cup group match, the last thing Graham Potter needs is to lose any player who regularly features for the national team.

Hopefully it looks like Anthony Elanga has had a lucky escape. Anybody who has played football at any level who has done something similar, will tell you how painful it can be when knee meets knee, even if no lasting damage.

Graham Potter changed his team after the 3-1 defeat to Norway and paired Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyokeres up front. They struggled to create much threat and Greece took the lead after only ten minutes. The Arsenal striker did eventually equalise on 53 minutes but then 10 minutes later the strike duo and seven other outfield players made way for Anthony Elanga and others. Sweden took the lead only six minutes after the changes through Nilsson, only for Greece to make it 2-2 in the fifth minute of added time.

Anthony Elanga looked good when he came on and presented a threat, two shots on target from the United winger. Newcastle keeper Odysseas Vlachodimos watched the entire game from the subs bench.
