Interesting to read through these BBC Sport ‘neutrals’ comments, following on from Newcastle United winning at Millwall.

An excellent team move then finished off expertly by Joe Willock in the 81st minute proving to be enough.

Newcastle United now move into the last 16 of the Carabao Cup.

United the better team for most of the match and managing 25 shots and 15 corners but rarely looked like scoring.

Still, in the hat for the next round and that is all that matters.

Always good to hear the neutral perspectives.

This one is no different, an interesting start to the season as Newcastle United are unbeaten in the opening five matches of the season under Matthias Jaissle, in league and cup.

The BBC Sport readers comments from neutrals…

‘Easy to say Newcastle were poor!! Millwall played really well ! Newcastle never gave up and got the result! Probably deserved! But well played Millwall.’

‘ITS NOT A SCARE. Millwall a good team who just missed out on the play offs and an away game and good result for NUFC.’

‘Congratulations to Craig Pawson getting through another game without making a big call. Ignored handball from Wissa shot then both occasions when Schar is hauled down. Considering the soft pen the mackems got at the weekend for ‘holding’ tonight’s non calls was laughable’

‘Proud of the Lions tonight fought well against a strong Newcastle side when I saw our line up and subs bench I thought this doesn’t look good but we held our own and if we had taken Aconte chance that hit the post could of been different but we gave a good account of ourselves lets move on and back the team coyl’

‘I thought the ref bottled two clear penalties on Schar. Blatant shirt pull and then grabbed around the waist & pulled to the ground.’

‘I’m not disappointed with how Millwall played – especially as we have so many players not available. They did not disgrace themselves and tbf … we can do without a cup run. Good effort – youngsters got some game time … really looking forward to the rest of the season. TuTu my man of the match followed closely by Taylor.’

‘What nee champions league games this week like Mags?’

‘Have you?’

‘It’s wearside Jack !’

‘We were fine, by far the better team, and as we should be. Great birthday for Lewis Hall! That’s our boy…’

‘Well done Millwall, a dogged performance. NUFC struggled with creativity in the final third and were a bit ponderous.’

‘Very proud of Millwall tonight. With so many first team players out we did brilliantly well against a very high value Newcastle team. Great atmosphere brilliant cup game! Despite the result enjoyed it.’

‘Well done Lions, 0-1 shows how hard you guys work. Holding a Prem team with so many of our 1st team out was a great showing that. You could see Newcastle boss getting worried till Willox scored. But the punters and sky commentators talk such rubbish. Funny how all that holding in the box is a peno in these games but never in a premier game. Great to see young lions on at the end COYL.’

‘Another ref who relies on VAR and is poor without it. ‘

‘I wonder who the bigger fools are, Nottingham Forrest for offering £15 million for Murphy or Newcastle for turning it down?’

‘When he’s on his game there’s very few who can get crosses better in the box. Of course, your PL playing record must be impressive for you to be so scathing.’

‘Well he turned Isak into a £125 million quid deal.’

‘Embarrassing for Newcastle to only win by one goal against a shocking side like millwall’

‘Millwall not a shocking side. Two points of the top of the Championship with a game in hand. Not exactly many places down the pyramid. Away fixture at a notoriously difficult place to go, I’m surprised you think Newcastle should have bossed it. Tough game as expected – did just enough to win. Great result.’
