Who are the most important Newcastle United players?
With the 2025/26 season moving into its final stages, which individuals are the most important to retain for next season?
A huge 2026/27 campaign coming up.
What is the picking order amongst these Newcastle United players?
Interested in hearing your thoughts in the comments section at the bottom.
I have gone through this list of 30 Newcastle United players.
In terms of how essential (in my opinion) they are to this massive 2026/27 season that lies ahead.
As well as listing them from 1 to 30, I have also divided the Newcastle United players into three categories.
The first category of eight players are for me, the ones that we absolutely cannot afford to lose.
The second category has twelve players who are basically what I see as the others who would currently make it up to a 20 man match day squad of first eleven and nine subs.
The third category has the remaining players who I definitely don’t see as playing any part next season.
All of the current Newcastle United players in order of importance, as we look ahead to the 2026/27 season:

Bruno Guimaraes
Sandro Tonali
Anthony Gordon
Lewis Hall
Tino Livramento

CATEGORY 3

Conclusions
In the category 3 list, I would hope another one year contract can be agreed with Fabian Schar.
Across categories 1 and 2, there is only one goalkeeper. I envisage Nick Pope as second choice next season and so that would need a new number one brought in this summer, as I have Aaron Ramsdale leaving after his one season loan.
If indeed, all of the ten listed in category 3 aren’t involved next season, then obviously the summer will undoubtedly need quantity and quality to be added.
You also hope that at least one or two younger players can progress into the first team squad and get minutes. The likes of Sean Neave and Leo Shahar for example, unless Eddie Howe sees the need for them to go out on loan and get regular first team football elsewhere.
