Matthias Jaissle was looking to start to increase the number of available Newcastle United players thanks to this extended international break.
Positive news in recent days from the training ground that after nine United players had been unavailable for the win over Hull City, Nico Gonzalez and Joelinton were now back in training ahead of Coventry away on Monday 12 October.
Ahead of the international break we had also seen Dan Burn declaring that he was confident he will also be back for the next NUFC match.
Now though Matthias Jaissle has two new injury issues to concern him.
Ewen Jaouen (pictured at the top with Sporting Director Ross Wilson after signing this summer) has been in impressive form in this set of internationals, starting both games for the France Under 21s and conceding only one goal in over three hours of football as his side picked up four points from a draw and a win.
However, the 20-year-old goalkeeper is now reported to have injured his hamstring during training with his international teammates and French media saying the young Newcastle star is having an MRI scan to see how serious the issue is.
France U21s on Thursday. Confirmation of the severity of the injury is awaited, with French media outlets claiming that he’s to have an MRI.
The young goalkeeper having shocking luck with injuries since joining Newcastle United and will now be heading back to Tyneside early and misses the remaining France Under 21s matches against Luxembourg and Switzerland. Although United’s Aladji Bamba remains with the squad.
The news on Ewen Jaouen swiftly follows that of Lewis Miley heading home after picking up an injury.
The 20-year-old was recovering from a broken leg this summer and only had 45 minutes of football in the pre-season friendlies before having to be thrown straight back into the first team due to injuries and Matthias Jaissle having limited options, as some new signings taking more time to adapt and integrate than others, plus the likes of Nico Gonzalez arriving after the season had started.
Now though Lewis Miley has left the England Under 21s squad early to return home. Some journalists have claimed that the injury is not thought to be serious but no official confirmation either way as yet.
