The breaking news on Friday morning is that Everton are up for sale.
The turbulence continues on the blue half of Merseyside.
Everton put up for sale only 22 months after they were taken over.
The car crash club once again looking for new owners.
Everton fans were left dismayed at a summer transfer window that saw the club make a net profit.
Quite clearly these owners not having the answers to turn around the crisis club that they took over in December 2024.
The official statement from the Everton owners declaring: ‘The Friedkin Group is exploring new investment options for Everton Football Club, including the potential sale of a controlling interest. When TFG became custodians of Everton, the Club faced significant financial uncertainty and challenges both on and off the pitch. The immediate priority was to provide the stability, investment and support needed to secure the Club’s future, including helping to bring the long-promised stadium to completion for its deserving supporters. With that foundation now safely in place, the time is right to consider the next chapter for Everton. We will only entertain interest from parties who we strongly believe will be the right stewards to take the Club forward and build on the momentum that has been established…Moelis & Company has been retained by TFG.’
You would have to be naive in the extreme to believe that the owners of any major Premier League club are acting in anything but their own interests, whether that be Everton, Newcastle United, Liverpool and so on.
These Everton owners clearly have found out very quickly that they have a club that is in such a desperate state that they need to get out of it ASAP.
Interesting to see who might buy it, probably yet another American owner, which is now the case across most of the Premier League.
