Newcastle United and England defender Lewis Hall, has been reflecting on where he stands now in his still fledgling career.

One of the many brilliant Eddie Howe signings, the then Chelsea teenager had only made eight Premier League starts when at the age of 18 he first arrived at St James’ Park.

Injuries have impacted and he still only has 59 Premier League starts in total, however, he has been superb for Newcastle United.

Still only 21, he is an outstanding talent and for many people, Lewis Hall is Newcastle United’s player of the year.

In an interesting twist of fate, the left-back is now set to be playing once again for the manager who gave him his Premier League debut.

Lewis Hall quoted by The Irish News as he is reunited with Thomas Tuchel: “When I knew him back in my Chelsea days, I was obviously not quite in the first team, but I was training quite regularly with them. Thomas Tuchel was the one who gave me my debut, so I was obviously incredibly grateful for that, and that’ll be a memory that I’ll always have. But I think I’m a completely different person now, completely different player now so I don’t necessarily read too much into the past.”

Thomas Tuchel has done a great job with England and whilst Lewis Hall was unavailable for the last squad call-up back in November 2025, once he proved his fitness and form with Newcastle United he was always going to be selected by this England boss.

Lewis Hall saying about Thomas Tuchel: “I know he is a great guy, so I’m looking forward to working with him again. He is obviously a great coach. For me personally, I just want to look to do my best here and learn from these players and from this coach. Hopefully that will put me in a good position.”

I don’t think there is any doubt that only injury will prevent Lewis Hall being on that plane to the 2026 World Cup finals.

Now it is up to the Newcastle United star to convince Thomas Tuchel that he has to be first choice this summer, with Lewis Hall adding: “There are two ways you can look at it, it can be quite nerve-racking knowing that this is the last opportunity to maybe impress. But at the same time, I think you play so many games in the season, I think they all know the way that you like to play. And I think this is just another chance for you to show not only what you can do on the pitch, but what you’re like off the pitch. So I’m just looking to be as happy as possible and enjoy my football here. Hopefully it will put me in a good position.”

Lewis Hall absolutely deserves to be in the England team this summer and best of luck to him on ensuring that it is an easy decision for Thomas Tuchel.
