Fans eagerly awaiting Newcastle United signings to arrive.
Actually, “eagerly awaiting” may not be quite the words I was looking for…
Maybe more like “hoping against hope for”, or “praying for” (if you are that way inclined), would be more fitting to the current mood.
Only 20-year-old Ewen Jaouen has arrived so far and whilst it has been reported as a £24m deal, the general belief appears to be that the Frenchman will start next season as the second choice goalkeeper. That is unless United don’t manage to get a first choice one over the line…
That perfectly sums up the mood, the scars of last summer still prevailing as fans doubt the chances of summer 2026 proving more positive when it comes to Newcastle United signings.
When a small Newcastle United squad has already lost Kieran Trippier and Anthony Gordon who were two regular first team players last season, also Aaron Ramsdale who made 23 appearances last season (plus the likes of Matt Targett, Emil Krafth, John Ruddy moving on as well). It does begin to look like an awful lot of places need to be filled by new Newcastle United signings.
What I mean by the title of this article (‘No news is good news when it comes to Newcastle United signings’) isn’t of course that it wouldn’t be good news if the club had made loads of credible looking new signings already.
What I am getting at is that in the past, the many successful signings that Eddie Howe has made, have tended to be all but done by the time we have any knowledge of them. Unlike these ones where we find out NUFC are after a player but it then becomes a saga that ends in failure.
My take on this is that it has been often the case that United’s pursuit of a player and the fact that they have made an approach and/or are in talks, is then purposefully made public by the selling club, agents, or whoever, to try and attract other clubs into a bidding war for the player, or to simply see what other options might be out there.
Only the very most negative Newcastle fans would believe that no news at the minute equals nothing going on at all.
My feeling is that no news at the minute is actually a real positive, that the club will be working on targets identified some time ago. Deals getting discussed on a confidential basis, rather then getting deliberately leaked to the media by agents or potentially selling clubs.
Ross Wilson is very experienced and knows how the whole summer transfer window circus works.
I have belief in the Newcastle United Sporting Director delivering a very good summer 2026 transfer window. We are less that two weeks into this window and plenty of time for Wilson to prove the uber doubtful amongst the NUFC fanbase wrong.
