Intriguing reading these comments from Millwall fans after facing Newcastle United on Tuesday night.
United progressing to the last 16 of the Carabao Cup for a fifth season in a row.
It was the first time in more than 33 years that the two teams had met.
Millwall restricted Newcastle United fans to the bare minimum of 10% capacity as per competition rules, so only just over two thousand tickets for the away fans.
Newcastle United the dominant side as they had 25 shots and 15 corners, though it wasn’t until the 81st minute when an excellent team move was finished off by Joe Willock’s quality finish to win the tie.
Millwall fans commenting after facing Newcastle United via their North Stand Banter message board:
‘Just under 15,000 there.
If Newcastle United had been given the whole North Stand it would have been 17,000. Which would have been a very big crowd a few years ago!
Either way, I actually don’t think that’s too bad for a midweek League Cup game. Especially as we’ve been at home the last two games & tickets priced quite high.’
‘The money would have been handy but I like the fact that away fans are now stuck in one half of the stand and it stops them creating a big atmosphere for their own players and helps us .’
‘I thought the atmosphere was good. Better than most Saturdays.’
‘Lewis Hall was so good for them. Great attitude and probably the only player in their team that showed his class.’
‘That was a brilliant game to watch.
Our lads showed that they can play amongst the best of them, and still make it a very close and competitive game.’
‘They had over £300M worth of players on the pitch, how good were Millwall tonight.’
‘As soon as we sang no noise from the geordieboys up they pop and score.’
‘Yeah and they piped up for 20 seconds and got drowned out by us.’
‘What a great advertisement for football.proud of every one of them.
Playing againt 400 m pounds worth of players and we’re a little unlucky not to win.’
‘Just back, fkin great atmosphere, and especially now we have half the North stand. The CBL made a lot of noise too…
And hats off to the small group of lads in the North Stand giving it to newcastle the whole game it seemed…
Proud of you Wall.’
‘Premiership players are embarrassing, whinging and moaning at the ref.
Thought we did well in that second half and with a bit more luck could have had a goal.
Love the way Taylor plays, tries to get in front and get a toe on everything, Newcastle players didn’t like it, thought they were being roughed up and looking to the ref for protection.’
‘TBF only a couple were like that, but because they were really bad at whinging it seemed like a lot.’
‘Proud of you Millwall, Newcastle know they were in a game , we had the better chances, everyone played well Tutu the pick of the bunch , we got through game without any injuries and the atmosphere was immense, hold your heads up high Millwall.’
‘I think given the quality in the squad of the opposition tonight, that was our best performance of the season so far.
A pat on the back for AN and the coaching staff who got the tactics spot on.
The players gave everything on the pitch tonight. A great team effort.
Us supporters silenced the Geordies with our display. Well done everyone.
Don’t think I have ever come away from a Millwall defeat, with such a smile on my face as tonight.
COYL!!!’
‘Great performance against a team that put two players on in the 2nd half worth over a. £100m. Can’t get my head round that.’
‘14698 there… only a couple of seasons ago that would have been our highest of the season.’
‘Lewis Hall sounded like a proper football man. Gave a good interview..’
‘Newcastle are a tidy team. They moved the ball well and posed an attacking threat. As shown by the number of corners they got. No shame losing by the odd goal there. Its not often I have come away from a losing game with a smile on my face. No injuries and no red cards as well. COYL.’
‘A mate of mine totted up some figures up last night;
Newcastle starting 11 cost £385 million!
Ours less than £8 million.
…. And we narrowly lost by 1 goal. Morally we won that game 8-0.’
Wasn’t fooled by Newcastle’s dramatics.’
‘He was standard. Gave them several soft free kicks and ignored worse on us.’
‘Luckily wasn’t good enough to see the penalties that should of been given against Taylor.’
‘I’ve watched Schar a number of times and he’s a dirty b……’
‘Great atmosphere last night, competed and battled throughout, spent the night in the north stand for a bit of a change and bit of fun!!’
‘The sky coverage was abmysal some geordie loving woman and everyones friend jobi hadenuff.’
‘Don’t mind Newcastle United… One of the few big clubs not supported by a majority of c…s. So good luck to em.
And I think they know our make shift team gave them a game and made them earn that win.’
‘Much prefer Sunderland. And Boro. Too many shirt wearing sheep at Newcastle.’
