Bruno Guimaraes has been one of the headline stories of the summer.
The entirety of the time before, during and after the 2026 World Cup finals where he starred for Brazil, has been dominated by claims that he could/would be leaving Newcastle United.
With only 20 days to go until Newcastle United kick off their Premier League season against Liverpool and 29 days until the summer 2026 transfer window closes, still nothing of substance appears to have happened.
At least that is, nothing made public as I write this on Monday (3 August) morning.
Bruno Guimaraes still a Newcastle United player and on Sunday we saw Sky Sports report that there still hadn’t been any direct contract made by Arsenal with NUFC, never mind a formal offer made for the United captain.
Last week it was announced that Bruno Guimaraes would fly direct from Brazil to Spain and join up with the rest of the Newcastle United squad on Sunday at La Manga, the rest of the players having flown out on Friday for the pre-season training camp.
Bruno Guimaraes then due to join in training as from Monday (today).
As things stand, no confirmation from the club or journalists that the Brazil international has arrived at La Manga.
Last Monday (27 July) I was heading into the city centre got my chance to go and view all of the amazing tributes to Kevin Keegan at St James’ Park. It was so moving and emotional.
I took a lot of photos of the KK tributes, for both me personally and for use on The Mag. I hadn’t been down to the ground recently and so I had a good look around. A lot of banners around St James’ Park and Bruno Guimaraes the most prominent NUFC player, as you can see on this image I took last Monday.

I was back in town yesterday (Sunday 2 August) and parked up past the ground, when we walked back to the car I noticed something had changed…
I don’t want to worry you but all of the Bruno Guimaraes banners have disappeared, as far as I could see anyway. Big Nick now taking prominence instead.

Naturally I hope this is all simply a coincidence.
Maybe some Mackems had managed to tear down all of the Bruno Guimaraes banners and as a temporary measure the club had no other Bruno ones to replace them with, so Big Nick (and others) used instead…
Back in the real world…I guess that by the time we get to the end of Monday we will have a better idea on Bruno Guimaraes. Whether indeed he is now at La Manga with the rest of the NUFC squad or…
A busy Monday in terms of Newcastle United it feels like.
As well as the Bruno Guimaraes situation, official confirmation expected today that Matthias Jaissle is the new manager (some paperwork at the Al Ahli end of things only temporarily delaying the expected Sunday announcement), whilst Lukas Hornicek also expected to be formally declared a Newcastle player today after taking his medical at La Manga and finalising his paperwork at the weekend.
