Alan Shearer has been talking to Amazon Prime ahead of Newcastle United facing Barcelona.

The two teams competing for a place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

A huge night in prospect at St James’ Park.

The United legend asked by Amazon Prime: “Why has the Champions League suited Newcastle’s style of play better than the Premier League this season?”

Alan Shearer: “Because of Newcastle’s pace, particularly up front with players like Gordon, Elanga, Murphy and Barnes. In the Champions League, teams tend to come out and play against you so Newcastle can hit them in behind. In the Premier League, there often isn’t that same space. So many teams – aside from two or three – have such a low block and Newcastle haven’t been creative enough and have struggled this season to break teams down.”

Hopefully Newcastle United will have plenty goal threats this evening, however, Barcelona have one or two of their own.

Teenage superstar Lamine Yamal has 19 goals already, in all competitions, Alan Shearer asked how United stop him: “I don’t think Newcastle can stop Yamal, I think it’s more a case of him having a bad day!”
