Bruno Guimaraes has issued a rallying call to Newcastle United fans ahead of the Brighton match this afternoon.
The Newcastle United Captain declaring to official club media: “Today’s game is an important one for us as a squad. We know this season has been a mix of feelings and now we have four games to make things right. Hopefully we can go through these moments together, starting with Brighton this afternoon, to get three points that will help us end the season on a high.”
Bruno Guimaraes made his first start last weekend after coming back from injury.
The Brazil international now determined to help his team get back to winning form: “We know that Brighton will be a difficult team today, and we have to be at our best to beat them. They have been on a good run, so we have to be even better than them to get the three points. The gap between us is eight points so if we win it will be five points with three games left. Anything can happen, so we have to believe. In the last game at Arsenal, we showed the passion, fire, and we fought until the last minutes to try and get at least a draw. When we get the chance to put the ball in the net we must be clinical. The fight and determination was there last week, but like I said after the game it wasn’t good enough for this shirt so we have to improve. Now we have an opportunity to make that right against Brighton.”
With such a small squad and a small number of real top quality players, it made it even more of a savage blow to lose the inspirational midfielder for two and a half months of this tough season, game 55 today.
A win against Brighton would sweep away any remote chance of relegation.
Plus of course regain some confidence and momentum as we approach the end of the season.
Bruno Guimaraes: “The fact is that we owe our supporters two good performances in our final two games at St. James’ Park. Of course we have four games in total, but especially at home we owe you two good Newcastle United performances. We’ve been training hard all week to make it happen on Saturday. Personally, I’m really happy to be back with the team after my injury in these last games. Honestly, it was one of the bad moments of my career, not to be able to help the team. I watched every game while I was back in Brazil, working hard to get back with the lads. I hope I can be back to my best in these final games – 11 weeks without starting was a long, long time. Now I’m fully recovered, feeling even better and training well.”
Four matches to go, starting with Brighton at St James’ Park.
Bruno Guimaraes signing off with: “Thank you for your support this season and I know we can count on you again in these last four games. Howay the Lads!”
