Thomas Tuchel talked about Lewis Hall after the 3-2 defeat for England against Spain on Saturday night.
Lewis Hall remained on the bench throughout the match at Wembley. This despite numerous cases of poor defending gifting Spain the victory, undermining England’s own impressive attacking play.
Nico O’Reilly amongst those guilty of huge errors at the back, especially when he gifted Spain the chance to pull it back to 2-2 . This after England had fought so hard to come back from conceding an early goal to lead 2-1.
The England boss explained why Lewis Hall hadn’t been involved.
Thomas Tuchel: “Lewis Hall missed some training sessions with a bit of an injury scare, so that is why I was a bit hesitant to put him out there today, but he is an option. He trained well at the end of the week but he was out of training at the beginning of the week, so we just didn’t want to take any risk because there was a lot of high speed running and defending to do.”
For Thomas Tuchel and his players it is now Czech Republic v England on Tuesday 29 September, with a 7.45pm kick-off. Followed by Croatia v England at 5pm on Saturday 3 October. Finally, it is England v Czech Republic at 7.45pm on Tuesday 6 October.
Tuchel Tuchel added after the defeat to Spain: “Lewis Hall is always in our discussions at the left-back position, he is the one who actually plays left-back for his club, Myles [Lewis-Skelly] and Nico [O’Reilly] play many times in central midfield.”

Ezri Konsa and Nico O’Reilly unable to join in with group training on the eve of the Czech Republic match, as Lewis Hall and the other 21 members of the England squad prepared for this second Nations League match of this international break.
Having not risked Lewis Hall after missing some training sessions, I can’t see Thomas Tuchel starting Nico O’Reilly if he isn’t 100%, especially as he played the entire game against Spain.
The other option at left-back is Myles Lewis-Skelly and he played the opening 70 minutes for England against Spain, but in midfield, where he now plays for Arsenal.
The other thing of course is that Lewis Hall also happens to be the best English left-back of all, so starting him on Tuesday night looks a no-brainer.
Thomas Tuchel said after the defeat to Spain, don’t expect significant squad rotation. So I think we will see Lewis Hall coming in as one of very few changes for this game against the Czech Republic.
