Bonus tickets have now gone on sale to Newcastle fans after West Brom fail to sell them

West Brom fans are travelling up to St James’ Park for tonight’s match but there is great news for Newcastle United fans.

Bonus tickets have now gone on sale to Newcastle United fans.

These are tickets that West Brom fans haven’t bought from their allocation and have been returned to be sold to home supporters.

West Brom took an allocation of 3,214 tickets, which is the same as the usual Premier League allocation for away fans at St James’ Park.

They gave their fans until 12 noon on Wednesday (matchday) before sales would close.

The Baggies have returned an unspecified number of tickets and if you are quick you can snap them up (providing you have paid to be a Newcastle United member for this season) via the online NUFC ticketing site.

Looking at the official Newcastle United ticketing site, it appears that there will be around two thousand or so West Brom fans in the away end. With around a thousand or so bonus tickets going on sale to Newcastle fans.

In the Carabao Cup, away sides are entitled to 10% of capacity (15% in FA Cup matches). Whilst 10% of the St James’ Park capacity would equal 5,200+, issues with segregation and home and away fans needing to use different exits means that for Carabao Cup matches it is usually just under 4,900 as a maximum number of away supporters for this competition at SJP. However, West Brom took a more realistic allocation of 3,214.

Another bonus is that there were be an extra 1,000+ United fans backing the team tonight.

The last time the Baggies played at St James’ Park was 12 December 2020 but zero West Brom fans made the trip.

This was in the days of Covid and no spectators allowed, Miguel Almiron scoring in the opening minute and then after Furlong equalised for the visitors, Dwight Gayle scored on 82 minutes to secure a 2-1 Premier League victory at St James’ Park.

The last time St James’ Park hosted West Brom fans was on 28 April 2018, Rafa Benitez had led Newcastle United to three home Premier League wins in a row against Southampton, Huddersfield and Arsenal but that run ended when a Phillips goal gave West Brom a 1-0 away victory in front of a 52,283 full house.
