Teddy Sheringham has been talking about Newcastle United and Eddie Howe.
The former Tottenham and England striker discussing the present situation at St James’ Park.
As well as just as importantly, what happens moving on.
The former player turned pundit asked the question by BestBettingSites: “Eddie Howe’s Newcastle future is apparently under serious consideration. Would the club hierarchy be making a big mistake if they gave him the heave-ho in the summer?”
Teddy Sheringham replying: “I really like Eddie Howe; I wouldn’t sack him. I think he’s building something there. Winning something recently for the club for the first time in about a million years was brilliant. He has the respect and the support of the majority of the supporters. There’s always going to be unrest and you can’t please everybody, but I think the majority are still with him and he deserves to carry on.”
A vocal minority of Newcastle United fans may think it would be the right move, however, the vast majority of supporters still backing Eddie Howe.
Teddy Sheringham adding: “It would be a massive risk for the club hierarchy to make that kind of call in the summer. He’s got a lot of affection in that part of the world for winning that Carabao Cup. It would be a huge gamble.”
Also interesting to look back to last May (2025), just before Newcastle United played their final match of the 2024/25 season, when they lost to Everton but still qualified for the Champions League.
Teddy Sheringham then also interviewed.
Asked about who should be Premier League manager of the 2024/25 season and replying: “I think there’s a lot of candidates for manager of the season. Arne Slot is one, but you can include some teams below Liverpool, too. There’s Unai Emery at Aston Villa, he’s definitely up there. He’s brought a lot of optimism to Aston Villa. At Newcastle, Eddie Howe has done fantastically. They’ve won a trophy and they’re still performing consistently.”
Teddy Sheringham also asked back in May 2025: “Do Arsenal have any realistic chance of landing Alexander Isak?”
With Sheringham saying to that: “I think, you know, he’s absolutely lauded as a centre forward in Newcastle, so why would he want to go. He might not want to change. It doesn’t get much better than fans loving you, and your team playing to the best aspects of your game, and you are the focal point. You’re earning good money and you’re in the team. You’re playing at the top level and players understand you and your manager loves you. So, you know, you, I’d be very surprised if he would want to go anywhere else at the moment. Newcastle look nailed on for Champions League football next season. They’re a club moving in the right direction, won their first trophy in 70-odd years this season. I think all of their top players will want to stay, and I think it would take ridiculous money to get one of Isak, Gordon or Guimaraes out of the club now. They don’t have to sell them with the carrot of Champions League football.”
