The 2026/27 season kicked off with Matthias Jaissle deciding to play Yoane Wissa as a number 10 for Newcastle United behind William Osula.
That decision paying instant dividends.
Within five minutes of the Liverpool game starting, United were ahead when William Osula carried the ball at pace before releasing Anthony Elanga for an excellent finish.
William Osula took a knock to his foot and was limping early on but appeared to shake it off and continued playing.
However, after coming out for the second half it became noticeable that the young Danish striker was struggling and he was subbed only ten minutes after the break and limped off.
William Osula has been missing since with that foot injury and seen wearing a protective boot, with media claims recently in his native Denmark claiming that the injury is a bad one and will keep him out for some time.
Now on Wednesday there has been an update made public.
Craig Hope at The Mail says that his information is that rather than a long-term injury as had been claimed, William Osula is actually now free of his protective boot and indeed “is now fully mobile as he targets a return to action, which could even be this side of the international break.”
The man from The Mail says that whilst there is a chance that the 23-year-old could be back in time for Hull at home on Saturday 19 September, it is more likely William Osula will be back available for the following Newcastle United match. That would give Osula an extra three weeks of recovery time before United are away to Coventry on Monday 12 October after the lengthy international break.
On Tuesday night Matthias Jaissle subbed off Amar Dedic at Millwall and after the game he said it had been as a precaution because the full-back was feeling his hamstring.
Craig Hope says that he has heard after an assessment by the medical staff on Wednesday, the early indications point to it not being any kind of a serious issue.
A timely return to the matchday squad for Tino Livramento also now takes the pressure off that right-back position, with the manager knowing he has the England international as an option now if Amar Dedic is struggling in any way for the Leeds match on Monday.
