Matthias Jaissle came into this Crystal Palace v Newcastle United match with the pressure building.

Four wins, two draws and just the one defeat before the international break.

After the break, two defeats in a row.

At Selhurst Park it was a real battle the first half with Crystal Palace clearly having the difficult weather conditions in their favour, United having to dig in.

Second half though United took control and in 15 minutes won the match, excellent team goals with Osula and Barnes on the end of them, Willock so unlucky not to add to them with such a close VAR offside.

Matthias Jaissle seeing his team dominant and then having won the game, looked to drop off a bit the final 20 or so minutes and see out the victory.

The NUFC Head Coach outlining how he approached the game after making five changes: “Today we went for more experience and leadership skills. It was a tough game, especially in the first half, but the second half was much better and we threatened the opposition more.”

Matthias Jaissle making this bold statement after the victory: “If we are all together…this journey can be successful.”

The United boss discussing the very different match this was before and after half-time: “It was a tough game, especially in the first half. We couldn’t get ourselves the reward for the intensity that we put in out of possession after the ball wins. In the second half, much better. We were more target orientated and we threatened the opposition more. In the end, also that willingness to defend and to have that clean sheet. It was a deserved win.”

Matthias Jaissle asked about William Osula making his first start since the opening day of the season: “He did an amazing job and we are happy that he is getting back on track. He was out for a long time. So now physically he is improving and he s a player with huge potential. The players around him…it was a team effort, everybody dug in. That’s obviously the ethic that you’re trying to get this team to produce because when you are all together, great things can happen.”

Matthias Jaissle adding: “We need to identify ourselves as a unit, a team that overcomes setbacks, that is what we did today. It is not done by an individual player, you need the teammates, you need the staff, you need the coaches, you need the fans.”
