NEWCASTLE'S FIRST LITTLE BUMP OF THE NEW SEASON — BUT THE UNBEATEN START CONTINUES!
It's time to take a deeper look at Newcastle United's 2-2 draw with Bournemouth at St James' Park.
After encouraging performances against Liverpool and Tottenham, this was a much more difficult afternoon for Matthias Jaissle's side. Bournemouth were excellent in the first half and deservedly raced into a two-goal lead through Marcus Tavernier and a Malick Thiaw own goal.
But Newcastle showed plenty of character.
Harvey Barnes produced a brilliant curling finish to get the Toon back into the contest before half-time, before substitute Jacob Ramsey struck in the 88th minute to complete the comeback and rescue a point.
The result means Newcastle remain unbeaten in the Premier League under Jaissle, with five points from the opening three matches — but this was certainly the first performance of the new campaign that raises some questions.

The numbers underline Newcastle's struggles. Bournemouth had 17 attempts to Newcastle's eight and won the expected-goals battle 1.50 to 0.66, with Jaissle himself admitting Newcastle's first-half display was an area they needed to improve.
There were positives, though. Fernandez-Pardo provided some much-needed energy and directness after coming on for his debut, while Ramsey once again showed how important Newcastle's options from the bench could be this season.
So was this simply the first little bump in the road for a completely rebuilt Newcastle side still adapting to a new manager and new system?
Or did Bournemouth expose some weaknesses that Jaissle needs to address quickly?
