Geordie Boot Boys can exclusively reveal that Newcastle United are showing an interest in Asharaf Loukman Tapsoba after a scouting trip to Morocco.
Newcastle United are keen to identify the stars of tomorrow, with Paul Mitchell eager for the club to unearth future superstars before they truly burst onto the scene and their price tag rockets.
The Magpies’ head of recruitment Steve Nickson has been in Morocco, looking for potential signings at the Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations.
Newcastle United eye teenage striker
Geordie Boot Boys understand that Asharaf Loukman Tapsoba is a player who has caught Nickson’s eye during the tournament.
He is a 15-year-old striker who is representing Burkina Faso, and is the top scorer at the tournament with seven goals so far.
Newcastle United are interested in the forward, but he would not be able to move for three years until he turns 18-years-old.
Tapsoba currently plays for Real du Faso, and has been likened to Nigerian superstar Victor Osimhen.
Newcastle United bolstering their academy
With Newcastle keen to get ahead of the pack by snapping up wonderkids, tournaments like this are very important.
That is why Nickson has been in Morocco, and Taspoba is one player who has stood out. However, he will not be the only one.
The Magpies’ interest in Tapsoba comes at a time when the club are investing heavily in youth. Antonio Cordero is set to join Newcastle on a free transfer, while there is already a deal finalised for Vakhtang Salia.
There is also a wealth of young talent already at the club. Leo Shahar was on the Newcastle bench at the age of 18 recently, while Sam Alabi has trained with the first-team at 15.
These are all players who Newcastle United hope will blossom into senior stars at St James’ Park.
