Newcastle United are building up momentum, as they prepare to face freefalling West Ham.
The two sides are in very different moments, with Newcastle United currently boasting a record of five wins in their last six games. They will be hopeful of getting another victory on Sunday when they head to the London Stadium.
In contrast, West Ham are struggling. They are 19th in the Premier League, while appointing Nuno Espirito Santo is yet to galvanise the Hammers.
The misery is expected to continue this weekend, with Newcastle United predicted to beat West Ham. That was the view of Paul Merson, and it is a sentiment shared by Chris Sutton.
Newcastle United told they will be ‘too strong’ for West Ham
As part of his weekly column for BBC Sport, former Premier League striker Chris Sutton has given his verdict on what the score will be between West Ham and Newcastle on Sunday.
He has backed Eddie Howe’s side to be victorious, admitting that the Hammers are in ‘deep trouble’.
“Newcastle marched on in the Carabao Cup in midweek and, after winning it last season and ending their long wait for silverware, I am starting to think about whether Eddie Howe can get his hands on another trophy,” he said.
“West Ham, in contrast, are in deep trouble. Nuno Espirito Santo had a free week to work on things on the training ground but whoever he picks, it doesn’t seem to make much difference.
“The Hammers concede a lot of goals from set-plays and I feel as if Newcastle are going to just be too strong for them in every area.”

Newcastle United finally get set piece joy ahead of facing West Ham
As Sutton says, West Ham concede a lot of goals from set pieces. Nine of the goals that have gone against them this season have come from corners, which is a shocking statistic.
That should have Eddie Howe licking his lips, just days after his side netted their first goal of the season directly from a corner.
Fabian Schar headed home Sandro Tonali’s corner during Newcastle’s win over Tottenham Hotspur, although that goal involved some controversy due to Djed Spence tying his lace. Thomas Frank was furious, but the goal stood.

That should give the Magpies more confidence from dead ball situations, having come very close on multiple occasions this season since the arrival of set piece coach Martin Mark.
Given the height that Newcastle United possess, West Ham could be in trouble. Given their record at defending corners, the likes of Nick Woltemade and Dan Burn will fancy their chances of grabbing a goal.
