Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes has been given quite the seal of approval from Manchester United midfielder and Brazil teammate Casemiro.

Along with Newcastle United teammates Sandro Tonali and Lewis Hall, Guimaraes has been linked with a move to Manchester United as they look to replace Casemiro.

The former Real Madrid midfielder will be leaving Old Trafford at the end of the season and the Red Devils are expected to rebuild their engine room as a result.

Guimaraes, as painful as it might be to read, would be a logical target on that front given his experience and success since moving to the Premier League from France in January 2022.

Casemiro tips Guimaraes to lead next generation of Brazil national team

The Toon skipper has attracted plenty of admiring glances since that move, including Casemiro himself.

Speaking to TNT Sports Brazil, Casemiro named Guimaraes as a potential heir to his place on the leadership team within their international set-up.

While Casemiro will feature in this summer’s World Cup, he is clearly approaching the end of his career and there could well be a changing of the guard within the Selecao hierarchy after this summer’s tournament.

The 34-year-old said: “Bruno is incredible, there’s no doubt about it.

“Bruno is very good. Bruno is incredible. And for me, from the next generation, he’s the guy who will take over that captain role, the guy who will start taking on that leadership. He’s Newcastle’s captain and has been having incredible seasons in the Premier League.

“So he’s someone who will take on that leadership. Among the players after my generation — me, Marquinhos, Danilo, Alisson, even Neymar himself, who we still don’t know whether he’ll continue or not.

“Ederson too, who’s more on that side with us, as I say, sitting at the same table, right? Alex Sandro too, players with more experience — Bruno is one of those players. Bruno, together with Raphinha, for me are among the players who will take on the captaincy of the national team, because of everything they represent.”

Guimaraes to Manchester United transfer latest

It has been claimed that Guimaraes will not push for a move away from Newcastle this summer.

Indeed, Newcastle are unlikely to sell both of Guimaraes and Tonali to Manchester United.

That would completely rip apart their midfield, an area of the team upon which their success has been built.

At this stage, Tonali looks more likely to leave than Guimaraes, although not necessarily for Old Trafford.

Geordie Boot Boys understands that Newcastle have wanted Guimaraes to sign a new contract for months, with his current deal set to expire in the summer of 2028.

Ahead of what many are predicting to be a summer of change, it is imperative that Newcastle keep Guimaraes at the club.
