Newcastle United’s interest in Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo first emerged during the summer but a second transfer window may pass without moving for him.
Back in August, Geordie Boot Boys revealed that Newcastle United hold an interest in Mainoo, who has struggled for game time under Ruben Amorim.
This season, Mainoo has made only eight appearances, though not a single one has come from the start.
Newcastle strengthened their midfield by signing Jacob Ramsey over the course of the summer, though there are now doubts about the unit as a whole.
Joelinton is struggling for form, while Joe Willock is yet to scale the heights he has previously reached while clad in black and white.
Given his lack of game time at Old Trafford, Mainoo’s name is likely to be featured rather frequently across January transfer window gossip columns and the like.
A move to St James’ Park, however, may be unlikely.

Newcastle United unlikely to sign a new midfielder in January
Speaking on The United Stand Podcast, transfer expert Ben Jacobs offered an interesting update.
Jacobs confirmed Newcastle’s “historical interest” in the 20-year-old but admitted it was unlikely that they would make a move for him, or any other midfielder, halfway through the campaign.
The journalist added that Mainoo may struggle for game time under Eddie Howe too, given the options he has in midfield.
“There’s a few Premier League clubs that are interested in Kobbie Mainoo,” said Jacobs.
“Newcastle, let’s not forget, hold an historical interest. I’m not so sure that they’ll do anything in their central midfield mid-season.
“Nor do I think that Kobbie Mainoo would be guaranteed minutes at Newcastle United as well because it’s only a three-man midfield in a 4-3-3 and they’ve got plenty of options there.”
Newcastle United’s stance on January transfer window will be disappointing for fans
Geordie Boot Boys have previously revealed that Newcastle insiders are not expecting a busy January transfer window.
While it would be foolish to expect them to go out and break the bank again so soon after a significant summer outlay, not making any signings would surely be seen as a major disappointment.

Newcastle’s results this season haven’t been good enough and, for the first time in years, the club are likely to have money to spend in the New Year sales.
The team need help and there would appear to be at least some funds available.
With that in mind, not moving for anyone – whether it’s Mainoo or another player – would be bitterly disappointing.
